National Kidney Registry Breaks Monthly Record for Living Kidney Donation in October, Facilitating 179 Living Donor Kidney Transplants

In collaboration with NKR’s 104 member centers, the National Kidney Registry (NKR) achieved a record-breaking milestone in October, facilitating 179 living donor kidney transplants. This achievement breaks the previous record of 157 transplants, set in July 2024, and underscores the NKR’s ongoing progress in expanding access to well-matched living donor kidney transplants for patients in need.

“We are immensely grateful to our member centers, our NKR team, the patients who trust us with their care and—most importantly—the living donors who make these lifesaving transplants possible,” said Garet Hil, NKR Founder, CEO and living kidney donor.

The NKR is facilitating over 26% of all living donor kidney transplants in the United States, up from 23% in 2023. The NKR is on track to facilitate approximately 1,700 transplants in 2024, with 3-year graft failure rates 17% lower than direct donation kidney transplants. NKR-facilitated transplants are demonstrating that better-matched kidneys lead to improved outcomes. In some cases, these better matches allow patients to safely lower their immunosuppression.
