The National Kidney Registry (NKR) is proud to announce the successful completion of its Chicagoland Regional Training, an educational event for transplant professionals across the Midwest. The event took place October 24 and 25, 2024, at the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Chicago, Illinois.
This hands-on training offered an in-depth look at kidney paired donation (KPD) processes, best practices, and strategies for maximizing matching opportunities. Professionals from transplant centers across the region gathered to share knowledge, troubleshoot challenges, and strengthen their understanding of KPD through expert-led sessions.
Key Highlights of the Event:
- Training Sessions: Topics included essential areas such as managing KPD processes, compatibility, remote donation, Kidney for Life, the Voucher Program, and strategies for maximizing matching opportunities.
- Expert Presenters: The training featured leading professionals from the NKR and beyond, including Karen Miller, RN, Margaret Voges, RN, and Suzanne McGuire, RN, who led discussions on real-world KPD case studies, operational insights, and patient guidance.
- Networking Opportunities: Attendees had a chance to connect with peers from transplant centers including University of Wisconsin-Madison, University of Minnesota, Northwestern University, Loyola University, University of Pennsylvania, Allina Health, Froedtert Hospital, University of Chicago, Ascension St. Vincent Hospital, and University of Kentucky.
The training drew 27 attendees from 10 different transplant centers, making it a dynamic and collaborative environment for transplant professionals committed to improving patient outcomes and advancing the science of living kidney donation.
“The Chicagoland Regional Training offered a unique opportunity for transplant professionals to come together, share expertise, and learn the latest strategies in kidney paired donation,” said Joe Sinacore, NKR Vice President of Network Development. “It was a privilege to collaborate with such a dedicated group of professionals, and we are confident that the insights shared during this event will have a lasting impact on the work we do in improving outcomes for kidney patients.”
