Today the National Kidney Registry announced the launch of a new website for the Donor Care Network at www.donorcarenet.org.
The Donor Care Network (DCN) Centers of Excellence are an elite group of transplant centers that meet a stringent set of best practices to ensure they offer the highest level of care and support to living kidney donors.
“The Donor Care Network was founded by a team of living kidney donors dedicated to improving the kidney donation process for future donors,” said Garet Hil, Founder & Director of the Donor Care Network. “The way we see it, the entire living donor transplant industry is built on the generosity of donors, so we want to ensure all donors are provided with excellent care and service, and that the donation process is as safe, convenient and positive as possible.”
DCN centers must agree to an extensive list of guidelines and commitments to provide the highest level of care, protection and support to living donors. In addition to being regularly monitored for compliance, DCN centers are recertified annually.
Out of more than 250 transplant centers in the United States, only 24 have been asked to join the DCN as Centers of Excellence, though the NKR hopes to expand that number in an effort to provide the highest quality living donation experience to more donors across the United States.
