Archive: National Kidney Registry Transfers Commercial Operations to For-profit Entity

Effective June 30, 2023, the National Kidney Registry (NKR) has transferred its commercial operations to a for-profit entity to comply with IRS regulations and begin paying income taxes.

The new for-profit entity carries the corporate name of “Best Match Corporation” but will be referred to under its DBA name, the “National Kidney Registry.”

The nonprofit corporation, the “Living Donor Support Foundation,” (formerly known as National Kidney Registry, Inc.) will continue to manage our unfunded charity operations, primarily grants, donor mentor services, the Donor Games, and sponsored athletes. There will be no change to the composition or ongoing role of the NKR Medical Board or any other changes related to personnel, strategy, or operations.

We have always been, and will continue to be, driven not by profit but by our mission: to help save or improve the lives of patients with organ failure and to support and protect all living donors.

We are forecasted to drop below the 33.3% “public charity support” floor in the coming fiscal year, which is why we proactively took this action. The reduction in public charity support was primarily driven by increases in center-to-center billing, which cannot be considered public charity support.

All individuals or entities that have entered into an agreement with the National Kidney Registry, Inc., a Connecticut nonprofit organization now renamed the Living Donor Support Foundation, Inc., are assigned to Best Match Corporation effective June 30, 2023.
