The National Kidney Registry Announces the Success of Animated Videos Designed to Educate Potential Living Kidney Donors

The National Kidney Registry (NKR) is pleased to announce the successful launch of a series of animated videos designed to educate and engage younger audiences about the importance of kidney donation.

These videos, which focus on the Voucher Program and Donor Shield, are already making an impact by raising awareness about living kidney donation and the programs and support available to living donors. As of September 1, the three videos have surpassed 2.27 million views.

The success of these short-format videos is a testament to the power of visual storytelling in reaching a younger demographic, typically aged 21 and up. As attention spans shrink and digital content becomes more prevalent, these animated videos are perfectly tailored to capture and hold the interest of potential donors. The videos offer a clear, concise overview of the donation process, breaking down complex information into easily digestible segments.

“We are thrilled to see how well these videos are resonating with a younger audience,” said Garet Hil, the Founder and CEO of the NKR and a living kidney donor. “By capitalizing on the short video format, we’re able to effectively communicate the life-saving potential of kidney donation and the benefits of the Voucher Program and Donor Shield.”

The three videos were developed to raise awareness about kidney donation and educate potential donors about three key NKR programs that can make the process easier, safer, and more convenient: the Standard Voucher Program, the Family Voucher Program, and Donor Shield.

The Standard Voucher program lets donors donate according to their schedule while providing a voucher for someone in imminent need of a transplant. When the intended recipient is ready for their transplant, they can redeem the voucher to receive a transplant from a well-matched living kidney donor. Watch the Standard Voucher video.

The Family Voucher Program lets donors donate a kidney to a stranger in need while also protecting their family members in the unlikely event one of them ever needs a kidney transplant. Watch the Family Voucher video.

Donor Shield is a comprehensive set of protections available to living kidney donors who donate through the NKR. It includes reimbursement for lost wages, travel expenses, and dependent care costs related to the donation process, as well as other support and protections including remote donation, kidney prioritization, legal support, complications coverage, and more. The NKR has additional videos planned to further educate and inspire potential donors, as well as to help kidney patients looking for a living kidney donor.
